@Chandu

I'm glad you liked it.
The thing is, I've been kind of immersed in too much stuff lately... as a result, the blog is, as you pointed out, considerably abandoned.

I actually thought it had died out due to our lack of new articles...

But seeing new comments is really encouraging to focus our attention back here =).

Nice article! PostSharp is very cool. One of the best uses of PostSharp is to automate logging. But an unfortunate side-effect can be massive log files that are hard to read, hard to dig around in, and sometimes hard to just open without running out of memory.

That problem is a thing of the past, thanks to a new PostSharp integration with Gibraltar. Gibraltar is a end-to-end logging solution. It integrates with PostSharp as well as many popular logging frameworks (log4net, NLog, etc -- and Trace, of course). And Gibraltar not only collects the data, it transmits and analyzes the data too.

Check out the marriage of PostSharp and Gibraltar:
http://www.gibraltarsoftware.com/See/PostSharp.aspx

In full disclosure, I'm a tad biased because I'm one of the founders of Gibraltar and I wrote the PostSharp adapter. But, the fact is that PostSharp is a fantastic .NET AOP framework and Gibraltar works REALLY well with it.

PostSharp works with Gibraltar to trace method execution, graph method execution time and log all exceptions (handled and unhandled) -- all without writing ANY additional code.

Certainly not even half of them!

Have you ever heard of any of them out there? I've looked for a decent aspect framework for C# for quite a while and haven't seen anything convincing until I've seen a whole bunch of people suggesting PostSharp @ stackoverflow.

Most frameworks I've checked had been inactive for a long time and/or meddled with the code at runtime and/or required external command line tools to apply the aspects and/or had crappy non-intuitive interfaces.

I've stick with PostSharp cause it provides a seamless integration with msbuild, does most of his stuff at compilation time - and have a very friendly interface with the PostSharp.Laos library.

Of course, if something better comes up, I'm all open to new ideas ;)

Big MAC!
Really nice and ez to follow guide! Just finished my hands-on lesson, following this steps!

Interesting, now as I said to you I finally can try to play with this Rails thing... just one thing...
When i ran the "rake features" i get this message:

*** The 'features' task is deprecated. See rake -T cucumber ***

After executing this command i got:

dkamioka@dkamioka-laptop:~/www/bookstore$ rake -T cucumber
(in /home/dkamioka/www/bookstore)
rake cucumber # Alias for cucumber:ok
rake cucumber:all # Run all features
rake cucumber:ok # Run features that should pass
rake cucumber:wip # Run features that are being worked on

Maybe it would be nice to update your post! ;)

Anyway, nice post!!! Next is the TDD :D

If it was my own project I would surely name it some GUNDAM acronym - maybe something like "General Unified Neat Database Active Mapping".

Since that's not the case, we surely need to think of a name, too bad we all seem to suck at that.

Although it breaks an important characteristic of repositories (complete separation of data and model), the gain earned when using lambda expressions for querying objects really worths it. Since you have a well defined data mapping with Linq to SQL and you are sure that you won't change your DBMS, this solution is a considerable option if you're looking for NHibernate or Castle ActiveRecord.

Hey, MACSkeptic, we should name it!

That’s cool. I’ve read it somewhere that you can also use NHibernate behind the scenes to get Entity to work with other databases besides SQL Server - but haven't tried it myself.

I'm kind of a mortal enemy to anything that needs any sort of XML configuration - I'd rather write dozens of lines of actual code than a single line of XML.
